Doug Levitt got in touch with many people traveling within the United States and found artistic inspiration in these experiences. Because of these attempts, he was able to shed light onto the true faces of this nation. In this particular part of the world, it is often considered undesirable to use public buses as a mode of transportation. With this being the case, it is often those who are struggling in the United States that are forced to take the bus. Doug Levitt traveled around the country of Greyhound buses as part his works known as The Greyhound Diaries. In his travels, he was given many humbling experiences that left him in a state of awe and gratitude. Due to this, the people he met on his adventures gave him the inspiration to create an EP, a book, and a website, all of which are the composition of this work.
Those who face struggle are at the front and center of this piece. It only makes sense that they should be brought to the attention of the American public. Levitt truly makes a powerful attempt at capturing the essence of what his journeys taught him about the various lives that make up this place. This is done through his various forms of visual, audio, and written arts that make up what is known as The Greyhound Diaries.
